Krommenie (NH): reformed church

This church was founded under the name St. Nicolaas in ca. 1400 when it replaced a chapel. It's a one-aisled  church in late-Gothic style. During the Eighty Years War it was badly damaged. In 1657-1658 it was repaired using the surviving walls, as well as lengthened on the west side. The new part was stylewise similar to the old church. A wooden tower was added, similar to those added to other churches in this area in that period. A coat of plaster was removed from the outside of the walls during a restoration in 1965-1969.
