Raalte (Ov): reformed church or Plaskerk

The reformed church of Raalte, also called Plaskerk, is a one-aisled late-Gothic church with a wide nave and a narrower choir. A first church was built on this location in the 12th century, a Romanesque buillding with a  one-aisled nave and a semi-circular choir. Shortly after 1425 the Romanesque choir was replaced by the current choir. The Romanesque nave was replaced by the current wide one at the end of the 15th century. The church was damaged in 1592 and repaired later. The old tower collapsed in 1694 and was replaced by a new one in 1697. This tower remained uncompleted for a long time and was in fact lower than the nave, unless thje spire was counted, in which case tower and nave were about as high.  In ca. 1835 the exterior of the church was plastered. During a restoration in 1969-1975 the plaster was removed and the tower was heightened.
