Bronckhorst municipality / Gemeente Bronckhorst (G)

Municipality in the western part of the Achterhoek region, formed in 2005 when the municipalities of Hengelo (not to be confused with the city of the same name in Overijssel), Hummelo en Keppel, Steenderen, Vorden and Zelhem merged. Administrative center is Hengelo. Bronckhorst is the largest rural municipality of The Netherlands and comprises 44 villages and hamlets. This page shows a number of churches in the municipality and is not complete.

Gemeente in het westen van de Achterhoek, gevormd in 2005 toen de gemeentes Hengelo (niet te verwarren met de gelijknamige stad in Overijssel), Hummelo en Keppel, Steenderen, Vorden en Zelhem werden samengevoegd. Het gemeentehuis staat in Hengelo. Bronckhorst is de grootste plattelandsgemeente van Nederland en omvat 44 dorpen en buurtschappen. Bronkhorst

The reformed church of the smallest town in the Netherlands is a small aisleless building in Gothic style, built as a chapel in the 15th century.

Steenderen

 

The reformed church is a pseudo-basilica in late-Gothic style. The lower part of the tower dates from the 14th century. The choir was built in c. 1440 while the nave was built in in the late-15th or early-16th century.

De hervormde kerk is een pseudo-basiliek in laat-gotische stijl. Het onderste deel van de toren stamt uit de 14e eeuw. Het koor dateert uit ca. 1440 terwijl het schip eind 15e of begin 16e eeuw werd gebouwd.

The St. Willibrordus is a one-aisled church in combined Neo-Romanesque and Neo-Gothic styles. The church was designed by H.J. Wennekers and built in 1862-1864.

De St. Willibrordus is een eenbeukige kerk in een combinatie van neoromaans en neogotiek. De kerk is ontworpen door H.J. Wennekers en werd gebouwd in 1862-1864.

Olburgen



The St. Willibrordus is a three-aisled pseudobasilica in neo-Gothic style, with a distinctive westwork with a diagonally positioned tower. The church was designed by G. te Riele and built in 1869.

Baak

 

Nowadays part of a farm is the ruined tower of the St. Nicolaaskapel, a Gothic chapel built before 1462. The rest of the building was demolished in 1776.

Tegenwoordig maakt de ruïne van de toren van de St. Nicolaaskapel deel uit van een boerderij. De gotische kapel werd gebouwd voor 1462. De rest van het gebouw werd in 1776 gesloopt.

Cultural centre Concordia was built as a barn church in 1772-1773 and was possibly designed by T. Wittenberg.

In 1889-1891 a new church was built behind the barn church. The St.Martinus is a big pseudo-basilica in Neo-Gothic style, designed by A. Tepe.

Vorden

 

The reformed church is a two-aisled church in Gothic style, the result of a rebuilt in ca. 1500 from an older and one-aisled church of which the tower was preserved.

De hervormde kerk is een tweebeukige kerk in gotische stijl, het resultaat van een verbouwing in ca. 1500 van een oudere en eenbeukigekerk waarvan de toren werd behouden.

Kranenburg

 

The church of the catholic enclave Kranenburg is the St. Antonius van Padua. This Neo-Gothic cruciform basilica, built in 1855-1856, was designed by P.J.H. Cuypers and is the oldest church by this architect still in excistence.

De kerk van de katholieke enclave Kranenburg is de St. Antonius van Padua. Deze neogotische kruisbasiliek uit 1855-1856 werd ontworpen door P.J.H. Cuypers en is de oudste nog bestaande kerk van deze architect.

The cemetery chapel is also in Neo-Gothic style and was probably also designed by Cuypers. It was built in 1865.

De begraafplaatskapel is eveneens in neogotische stijl en werd waarschijnlijk ook ontworpen door Cuypers. Zij werd gebouwd in 1865.

Hengelo

 

The reformed church is a late-Gothic pseudo-basilica with a relatively large tower. The church was built in different stages in the 15th century.

De hervormde kerk is een laat-gotische pseudobasiliek met een relatief grote toren. De kerk werd in verschillende fases in de 15e eeuw gebouwd.

The St. Willibrordus was built in 1842-1843 in Neo-Classical style by a design by H. Bauer. However, in 1924 the nave was radically rebuilt by H.C.M. van Beers in Expressionist style.

De St. Willibrordus werd in 1842-1843 gebouwd in neoclassicistische stijl naar een ontwerp van H. Bauer. Echter, in 1924 werd het schip drastisch in expressionistische stijl verbouwd door H.C.M. van Beers.

The Vrijzinnig Hervormde kerk ('liberal reformed church') is a small aisleless building in simple Expressionist style, designed by H. van der Kloot Meijburg and built in 1931.

The St. Johannes de Doper is a pseudo-basilica in a Traditionalist or late Neo-Gothic style. It was designed by J. Stuyt and built in 1931-1932.

The reformed church is  a pseudo-basilica in Gothic style and was built in the 15th century except for the tower, parts of which date from the 12th century and are in Romanesque style.

The reformed church is an aisleless church in neo-Classical style with neo-Gothic elements, built in 1838-1839 on the site of a 14th-century predecessor.

Laag-Keppel

 

The reformed church is a long cruciform church, designed by an unknown architect in a more or less neo-Gothic style and built in ca. 1880. The church closed in 1973 and is now an art gallery.

De hervormde kerk is een langgerekte kruisvormige kerk, ontworpen door een onbekende architect in een min of meer neogotische stijl en gebouwd in ca. 1880. De kerk sloot in 1973 en is nu een kunstgalerie.

Hoog-Keppel

 

The reformed church is an aisleless church with a largely 12th-century Romanesque tower and an essentially Gothic nave from the 14th century. Originally a three-aisled church, the side-aisles were demolished in the 18th century.

De hervormde kerk is een eenbeukige kerk met een grotendeels romaanse toren uit de 12e eeuw en een in essentie gotisch schip uit de 14e eeuw. Oorspronkelijk was het een driebeukige kerk; de zijbeuken werden echter in de 18e eeuw afgebroken.
