Rotterdam-Hillegersberg (ZH)

Hillegersberg is a former village that was annexed by Rotterdam in 1941 and has become a part of that city since.

 

 

 

 

 

The reformed Hillegondakerk is a Gothic pseudo-basilica with a part 14th-century tower, while the nave and the choir are from the 16th and 17th centuries respectively.

The catholic Christus Koning was designed by H.P.J. de Vries and is in Expressionist style. It was built in 1928-1930. Originally its tower had a narrow upper part with a spire, but in 1991 it was damaged by lightning and subsequently demolished.

The reformed Oranjekerk is a church in Traditionalist style with Expressionist details, designed by L.N. Krijgsman jr. and built in 1933-1934.

Location: Rozenlaan 20

 

 

 

 

 

The catholic H. Paulus was built in 1941-1942 and is as such one of few churches built during the German occupation. It is in Traditionalist style and was designed by architect C.J. van der Lubbe.

Location: Larikslaan 184

 

 

 

 

 

 

In a more modern Traditionalist style is the St. Liduina, designed by J. Hendriks, W. van der Sluys and L.A. van den Bosch and built in 1955.
