Bornerbroek (Ov): St. Stephanus (1857, A.J. Kropholler, 1919-1920)

In 1834 a church was built in Bornerbroek. Already in 1857  it was replaced by an aisleless church in neo-Gothic style, which in 1868 was extended with a new choir by G. te Riele. Part of that church is still recognizable as part of the current nave, because the church was radically rebuilt by A.J. Kropholler in 1920. Kropholler lengthened the nave and added a new front with a tower. The choir was replaced by a new one. The eastern half of the nave was widened with side-aisles while heavy buttresses, without a clear function, were added to the western half. Apart from the pointed windows in the western half of the nave, nothing about this church suggests that Kropholler didn't design the entire church to begin with.
