Town and municipality in the Twente region. Like much of this region, Almelo is argely catholic. The other parts of the municipality are the villages Aadorp, Bornerbroek and Mariaparochie (part only).

Stad en gemeente in de regio Twente. Net als een groot deel van deze regio is Almelo grotendeels katholiek. Onderdeel van de gemeente zijn de dorpen Aadorp, Bornerbroek en Mariaparochie (gedeeltelijk).

Almelo

The reformed church was originally built as the chapel of the castle. Although founded in 1236, the oldest part of the church is the choir from 1493. The rest of the church dates from 1738.

De hervormde kerk was oorspronkelijk gebouwd als de kapel van het kasteel. Hoewel gesticht in 1236, is het oudste gedeelte van de kerk het koor uit 1493. De rest van de kerk dateert uit 1738.

The Mennonite church is a one-aisled building that dates from in 1684. In 1791 the facade was changed into the current one in Louis XVI style.

De Doopsgezinde kerk is een eenbeukig gebouw dat dateert uit in 1684. In 1791 werd de gevel omgebouwd tot de huidige in Lodewijk XVI-stijl.

The Roman Catholic St. Georgius is a three-aisled cruciform basilica in neo-Gothic style, built in 1901-1902 after a design by W. te Riele. It was this architect's first church.

De rooms-katholieke St. Georgius is een driebeukige kruisbasiliek in neogotische stijl, gebouwd in 1901-1902 naar een ontwerp van W. te Riele . Het was de eerste kerk die door deze architect werd gebouwd.

The St. Egbertus is another catholic church. It was designed by J. Stuyt and built in 1922-1924. Like some other churches by this architect it features a large dome. It closed in 2004 and its future is uncertain.

De St. Egbertus is een andere katholieke kerk. Het werd ontworpen door J. Stuyt en gebouwd in 1922-1924. Net als sommige andere kerken naar ontwerp van deze architect heeft deze een grote koepel. De kerk is in 2004 gesloten en haar toekomst is onzeker.

Eben Haëzer is a small calvinist church in simple Expressionist style. It was built in 1927.

The Gereformeerde Noorderkerk was built in 1935. It was designed in Expressionist style by B.T. Boeyinga. In 2004 it was closed, two years later it was transformed  into four houses.

De Gereformeerde Noorderkerk werd gebouwd in 1935. De kerk werd ontworpen in expressionistische stijl door B.T. Boeyinga. In 2004 werd de kerk gesloten, twee jaar later werd zij omgebouwd tot vier woningen.

Mariaparochie

Location: Ootmarsumsestraat 494

De O.L.V. van Altijddurende Bijstand werd gebouwd als parochiekerk voor een deel van Almelo, maar werd vervolgens het middelpunt van het nieuwe dorp Mariaparochie. De kerk werd ontworpen door J. Stuyt en is in neogotische stijl. De kerk werd gebouwd in twee fasen;, in 1918 werd het oostelijke deel gebouwd, in 1923 gevolgd door het schip en de toren.

Bornerbroek

 
The village of Bornerbroek is located a bit south of Almelo. The church St. Stephanus was built in 1857, but of its original look virtually nothing is left, especially after A.J. Kropholler enlarged the building in 1919-1920 in Traditionalist style.

Het dorp Bornerbroek ligt een beetje ten zuiden van Almelo. De St. Stephanuskerk werd gebouwd in 1857, maar van haar oorspronkelijke uiterlijk is vrijwel niets over, vooral nadat A.J. Kropholler het gebouw 1919-1920 vergrootte in traditionalistische stijl.
