Eersel municipality (NB)

Eersel is a village that originally consisted of two seperate settlements, in between of which in the 15th century the current centre emerged. Currently Eersel is the centre of a municipality that also encompasses several other villages in the area, including Steensel, Knegsel and Wintelre. The other villages are Duizel and Vessem.

 

Eersel

 

 

 

The St. Willibrordus is an originally Gothic church from the 15th century. In 1930-1931 it was enlarged by architect H.W. Valk with a big eastern part.

The Lieve Vrouwkapel (Our Lady's chapel)was founded in 1464 by knight Hendrick van Eyck. In 1654, 6 years after the catholic faith had become illegal, the chapel was rebuilt into a town hall. In 1957 it finally became a chapel again.

The reformed church was built in 1812 but was completely rebuilt in 1861.

Steensel

 

 

 

 

The old tower of Steensel is all that's left of the church of St. Lucia, which was demolished in 1933. The medieval nave had already been replaced in 1821.

A new St. Lucia was built at a short distance from the tower in 1934. this building in Traditionalistic style was designed by F. Vervest.

Knegsel

 

 

 

 

The H.H. Monulphus en Gondulphus in Knegsel was built in 1926 and was designed by H.W. Valk in a Traditionalistic, almost neo-Gothic style.

Wintelre

 

 

 

 

The St. Willibrordus in Wintelre was built in 1930-1931 and was designed by J. Vermeulen. It incorporates a tower from 1859 which was designed by H.J. van Tulder.
