Scheveningen (ZH)

Former village, now a part of the city of Den Haag. Part of Scheveningen is the Duindorp neighbourhood.

 

 

 

 

The old reformed church is a typically long building in modest Gothic style. The tower shows Flemish influences.

Location: Keizerstraat 8 

 

 

 

 

 

 

The Geref. Eben Haëzerkerk is a T-shaped building in neo-Renaissance style designed by architect Roelof Kuipers, brother of Tjeerd Kuipers. It was built in 1892.

R. Kuipers also designed the reformed Nieuwe Kerk ("new church") in a similar but richer neo-Renaissance style. This church was built in 1893-1894. Since it hasn't been used for several years it will be demolished, only the front and the tower will be spared.

The Nieuwe Badkapel ("new bath chapel") is a church built especially for protestant tourists. It dates from 1915-1916 and was designed by the relatively unknown architect W.Ch. Kuijpers, in a style that combines elements of Berlagian Rationalism and Jugendstil.

This complex in Traditionalist style, consisting of a church, a chapel and a group of houses, was designed by architect A.J. Kropholler. Construction of the complex lasted from 1917 to 1925, although the church was finished by architect C.M. van Moorsel. The church is called Onze Lieve Vrouwe van Lourdeskerk.

Another Roman Catholic church is this building in moderate Expressionist style, the H. Antonius Abt, which was built between 1925 and 1927. It was designed by architects Jos Cuypers and his son Pierre jr..

The reformed Prinses Julianakerk in Duindorp dates from 1927 and was designed by W.Ch. Kuijpers in a combination of Traditionalist and Expressionist styles.

The church of the Oud-Gereformeerde Gemeente was built in 1935 and is in a Traditionalist style. The architect is not known.

The Geref. Pniëlkerk in Duindorp was designed by B.W. Plooij and is one of his most important works. It was built in 1937 and is in moderate Expressionist style.
