Boxtel municipality / Gemeente Boxtel (NB)
Large village and municipality in the center of the province. The other villages of the municipality are Lennisheuvel and Liempde.
Groot dorp en gemeente in het midden van de provincie. De andere dorpen van de gemeente zijn Lennisheuvel en Liempde.
The St. Joriskapel (St. George's chapel) is the chapel of Stapelen castle located just outside the village and an Assumptionist monastery since 1915. The chapel dates from the 14th century but was, like the rest of the castle, changed in early neo-Gothic style in 1857-1858.

De St. Joriskapel is de kapel van het kasteel Stapelen net buiten het dorp en een Assumptionistenklooster sinds 1915. De kapel dateert uit de 14e eeuw maar werd, net als de rest van het kasteel, gewijzigd in vroege neogotische stijl in 1857-1858.

The St. Petrus is a Gothic church from the 15th century and was once the centre of a major pilgrimage until the protestants banned all catholic religious activities in 1648 and took the church themselves. For the small protestant community the long choir and transept were big enough, so they left the nave to fall apart. The current nave was built in 1823-1827 and was probably the first neo-Gothic construction in the country.

De St. Petrus is een gotische kerk uit de 15e eeuw en was ooit het centrum van een belangrijke bedevaart totdat de protestanten in 1648 alle katholieke religieuze activiteiten verboden en de kerk in beslag namen. Voor de kleine protestantse gemeenschap waren het lange koor en het transept groot genoeg, dus lieten ze het schip vervallen. Het huidige schip dateert uit 1823-1827 en was waarschijnlijk de eerste neogotische constructie in het land.

In
front of the St. Petrus stands this small reformed church
in neo-Classical
style, built in 1812. Architect was Hendrik Verhees, a
surveyor from Boxtel who is also known for the drawings he made of
several churches in this part of Brabant. It is obvious that the St.
Petrus, even without the nave, was much too large for the protestants
of this
village.

Direct voor de St. Petrus staat deze kleine hervormde kerk in neoclassicistische stijl, gebouwd in 1812. Architect was Hendrik Verhees, een landmeter uit Boxtel die ook bekend is voor de tekeningen die hij gemaakt van verschillende kerken in dit deel van Brabant. Het is duidelijk dat de Sint-Petrus, zelfs zonder het schip, wveel te groot was voor de protestanten van dit dorp.

The neo-Gothic H. Hartkerk (Sacred Heart Church) is a three-aisled cruciform church from 1899-1901 by architect C. Franssen, one of the major architects of neo-Gothic in the Netherlands.

The former St. Ursula Convent dates from 1911. It was designed by architect J.H.H. van Groenendael, who used a combination of Jugendstil and more traditional shapes for the main building, while the chapel is in neo-Romanesque style. The chapel is now used as a theatre.
