Midden-Delfland municipality (ZH)

Municipality in the Westland region, located between Delft and Maassluis and comprising the population centres Schipluiden, Maasland, Den Hoorn , Hodenpijl, 't Woudt, Ter Lucht, De Zweth, Zouteveen and Gaag. The municipality was founded in 2004 by merging the former Maasland and Schipluiden municipalities. Administrative center is Schipluiden.
 
Den Hoorn

 

 

 

 

The catholic St. Antonius en Cornelius in Den Hoorn is a cruciform pseudo-basilica. designed in a late -Neo-Gothic style by N. Molenaar sr. and built in 1916-1917, although the tower and the choir were not completed until 1922.

't Woudt








Although 't Woudt is, and always has been, a very small village, it has a reformed church of its own, a one-aisled Gothic church built between the 14th and the 16th centuries.

Hodenpijl

 

 

 

The former St. Jacobus is a Neo-Classical church designed by A. Roodenberg and built in 1839-1840. It was the church of the Schipluiden parish until 1963, and was itself the successor of a hidden church which had served the entire area since 1657.

Schipluiden

 

 

 

 

The reformed church is a one-aisled building in late Gothic style. It was built in the first half of the 16th century and originally had a tower, which in 1810 was demolished.

The former Gereformeerde kerk or Koningskerk was designed by A. Warnaar in a modern Traditionalist style and built in 1955.

In 1963 the St. Jacobus was built, replacing the church in Hodenpijl. The new church, a centralizing building with a  hexagonal ground plan, was designed in a modern Traditionalist style by architect H.W. Valk and his son G.H.F. Valk.

Maasland








The reformed Oude kerk ('old church') is a big two-aisled church in Gothic style, built in the 15th and 16th centuries. The church burned down during festivities in June 1945, leaving only the walls standing, and was fully restored in 1956.

The catholic St. Maria Magdalena was built in 1886-1887. It was designed in neo-Gothic style by E.J. Margry.

In 1956 this modern Gereformeerde kerk was built. It was designed by A. Warnaar and B.T. Boeyinga.
